Katharine Stephens scores first ever Chicago Dutch Lions FC goal
After a week of preparation, the Lions hosted their first home match against the Milwaukee Bavarians on Saturday, June 5. Forward Katharine Stephens (#5) scored the only Dutch Lions FC goal, as they drew with the Bavarians in a 1-1 tie. CEO Nikhil Erlebach was grateful to see his team in front of a home crowd: "It was great to finally play our first-ever home game at Benedictine University after months of preparation,” Erlebach said. “It was difficult to play in that heat today, but the girls had some great moments. The 1-1 tie was a deserved result in the end. We now look forward to hosting Green Bay Glory on Wednesday.”
General manager Bryan Sutherland shared the same sentiment and is excited about the direction that the program is heading in: “I am so proud of the team that our staff has put together, both on the field and behind the scenes,” Sutherland said. “We at the Chicago Dutch Lions FC look to bring entertaining and quality soccer to not only the WPSL, but to the western suburbs of Chicago. We are striving for a fun and family-friendly environment at our home games that will make a great outing for fans of all ages, friends and the community at large. And we play at an amazing facility. Come check us out as we are now able to allow a large number of spectators."
The next game is Wednesday, June 9 at 5:00 p.m., where the Lions will host the Green Bay Glory, who are 0-0-2. This is the first of two meetings between the clubs, as the Lions will look win their first game ever and remain in the top half of the conference standings.
